Spring Cloud in Kubernetes era

Day 2 /  / Track 3  /  RU / Introduction to technology

Once upon a time, lots of JavaScript frameworks ago, when microservices were monolith, there were many different tools for Cloud native apps development. Spring Cloud was one of the main tools in Spring reality and had a set of useful projects from Netflix, Spring team and other vendors.

It seems that today, when Kubernetes rules the world and it became the universal solution of any problem, the importance of Spring Cloud must inevitably fade away. But things are not so simple, and Alexey will show what Spring Cloud components may be used in Kubernetes, how these projects complement each other, what they have in common. And finally, he will try to answer the question — what's the value of Spring in Kubernetes era?

10+ years experience in IT, starting from C/C++ and geophysics and now basically JVM languages/JS and financial services.

Basically, he uses Spring and Netflix ecosystem, but checks out everything that is worth trying on GitHub. He is experimenting with reactive approaches.

He wants to understand not only his apps but also everything around them, thus he is working with all the infrastructure (logs, CI/CD, orchestration) and tests. To sum up, DevOps is our everything.
